Our Optometrists
Optometrists train for a minimum of seven years before receiving their Doctor of Optometry degree. This typically includes a Bachelor of Science degree, then the four year Optometry program. Some optometrists also have residency training, which is an additional year of specialty training in a certain area.

Dr. Gupta graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2005. Following graduation she gained valuable experience practicing in Belleville, Ontario before returning the University of Waterloo as a clinical supervisor for students in their third and fourth years of optometry. She supervised students in the primary care clinic, contact lens clinic as well as in the external geriatrics and community clinics. She returned to her home province of Alberta in 2007 as has been with Chestermere Optometry since.
Dr. Gupta enjoys practicing full scope Optometry in the community of Chestermere. She believes in listening to patients and enjoys sharing with them information about how the visual system functions. Dr. Gupta has given presentations at the early childhood development group in Chestermere, and is happy to be a part of the growth and development of young families in this community.
Dr. Gupta spends her spare time taking fine arts courses at the Alberta College of Art and Design where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She also enjoys swimming and is experimenting with gardening. She and her husband enjoy spending time together hiking and snowshoeing in the rockies.
Dr. Heing Taing
Dr. Heing Taing, who was raised in Southwestern Ontario, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree from the University of Guelph in 1999. In 2003, she obtained her Doctor of Optometry Degree with honours from the University of Waterloo. As part of her training, she spent four months at Eye Associates of Pinellas Park, Florida where she developed a keen interest in ocular disease and therapeutics. After one year of practice in the Niagara Region, Heing moved west to British Columbia and joined a private practice in North Vancouver. In search of a wider scope of practice to better serve her patients, Dr. Taing moved to Calgary with her husband in 2008 and joined Chestermere Optometry in 2010.
Dr. Taing believes in thorough patient care and education. She encourages patient involvement on disease management and prevention. Dr. Taing enjoys working with children and has special interests in anterior segment disease, including dry eye, and specialty contact lenses.
Outside of the office, Dr. Taing likes to volunteer her time in a variety of areas. While in BC, she was secretary of the Fraser Valley Optometric Association, and spoke to several groups (Keep Well Society, Cardiac Rehab Group, community health nurses of North Vancouver) on eye-related topics. In Calgary, she presented to engineers, librarians, and U of C family medicine residents. She has also provided eye care for patients in hospices and nursing homes. In her spare time, she enjoys running, snowboarding and traveling abroad.
Dr. Samantha Bourdeau
Dr Bourdeau received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba in 1997, and her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2001 from the University of Waterloo. From there she went on to complete a one year ocular disease residency in Miami, Florida where she worked alongside cornea, retina and glaucoma surgeons. She developed her skills in the treatment and management of ocular disease during that time, then went on to work in a seniors community in Sun City Arizona where she continued to help patients with problems such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
For the past six years Dr Bourdeau has been back in Canada working in a private practice optometry setting. She believes that good communication with her patients is important in helping to address their unique visual concerns, and is known to be sensitive and attentive to their needs. Dr Bourdeau takes time to do a thorough eye examination, and is happy to answer any questions about the eye or vision.
